Anna-Marie Sutherland

Anna-Marie Sutherland is a Canadian indie actress. She made her feature film debut as the heavenly Bulgarian nurse in the critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning "The Barbarian Invasions" (2003) and had continued success until taking a hiatus to care for family. She returned to acting in 2023 with leading roles in Discovery Channel’s TV crime series "Fear Thy Neighbour", voted Best Episode on Episode Ninja, and in True Crime's newest TV docuseries "How NOT to Hire a Hitman" that premiered November 2025. She has appeared in several indie films including the multiple award winner "Outcasted" that just had its 10th festival screening. October 2025, the award winning ghost story "We're All Haunted Here" premiered at Toronto Indie Horror Festival, was an Official Selection at Fright Nights in Austria and Spooky Empire Horror Festival in the U.S.A, and will screen this December at Toronto Indie Nights where it will receive the Best Genre Award. The award winning "Frequency of Fear" premiered at An Afternoon of Horror for a Good Cause and was an Official Selection at the 2025 6ix Screams International Film Festival, winning two awards, and the psychological thriller "Apnea" screened at the 2024 Blood in the Snow Film Festival.

 

Anna-Marie has been cast in an upcoming BELL Fibe TV comedy series workplace ensemble set to premiere in 2026. The TV movie "Strike of Love" is streaming on Prime and Super Channel, the period drama "The Passage of Natasha May" is in post production. and the proof of concept "Dear Grandpa, It's Michael" is being made into a feature film. She has also worked on web series for "Paradigm Studios", "Actors Anonymous Hotline", and has a recurring role in Eskape Studios "Neighbours Series". 

Anna-Marie continues to support and learn from film students with over 40 productions. Recently she has filmed "Outcasted" (2024), "Grocery List" (2024), "Milo Stops Moving" (2025), "Goodbye, Piccadilly" (2025) and "Smile, Baby" (2025) for TMU, "Quiet Redemption" (2024), "The Only Child" (2024), "Chasing Echoes" (2024), and "The Backstage" (2024) for Humber, "Dreaming David" (2024) for U of T, "STAR04" (2025) for Toronto Film School "Holding on to You" (2023) for Sheridan and "Mother Grievance" (2025) for York University.. 

She began her career as an international model, living and working in over a dozen countries, she then segued into acting through theatre. Favourite past stage roles include 'Shelby' in Steel Magnolias, 'Florence Unger' in The Odd Couple (Female Version), and 'Mrs. Potiphar' in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She has also appeared at The Toronto Fringe Festival and in The Vagina MonologuesMost recently, Anna-Marie performed in The Hungry Ones; A Theatre of the Oppressed Forum.

Anna-Marie has worked on thousands of sets internationally, across a variety of media, including film, television, theatre, web series, commercials, live appearances, print and runway. She has an experienced understanding of professional set acumen and technical logistics.. She is passionately dedicated to the craft and continuously trains to prepare herself for her next adventure in the art of storytelling with a disciplined holistic practice.
